“All policy is health policy. Whether it’s housing policy, education policy, transportation policy… At the most fundamental level, all that we do in the city of New Haven impacts the health, well-being and success of our residents and our communities.” –Dr. Chisara N. Asomugha, Community Services Administrator
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently stated: “Health begins with healthy communities, with safe streets, freedom from violence, and parks where kids can play. Health begins with a good education, where children learn not only how to read, write, and prepare for a fulfilling, prosperous life, but how to treat each other with dignity and respect.” We in New Haven believe that a healthy community begins with an understanding that health is impacted by many social factors and that to effectively address these social factors we must define health broadly. This is why Health Matters!
